Just only a few kilometres out of Larnaca and around the corner from the airport is the Hala Sultan (Umm Haram) Tekke. It stands next to the salt lake just south of Larnaca and is one of the first sights you see heading out of the airport. With the salt lake on one side and the deep blue Mediterranean sea on the other, its easy to feel that you have stepped back in time. According to legend, Muhammad’s paternal aunt, accompanying her husband on an Arab raid on Cyprus in 649, was attacked by Byzantine forces here. She fell from her mule, broke her neck and was buried on the spot. The Mosque, that was built around her grave is the fourth most important holy place in the world for Muslims. For me it will always be a sanctuary of peace and beauty. Especially in spring with the salt lake covered with water and Pink Flamingos.
A simple internet search will tell you that Finikoudes is a very popular beach with tourists, as it is the main beach of Larnaca town, with Larnaca front stretching along behind the beach.
The beach area boasts the full range of beach activities, and entertainment as well. A range of loungers and parasols can be rented to relax on.
The sand is clean, and the beach goes out to the sea with a low incline.
Along the main road behind the beach there is a huge range of restaurants and bars, from KFC to The Brewery, so you are never far from all types of refreshments.
But there’s so much more. The history of this place is amazing.
By far the most touristy city of Cyprus and yet still retains the old world charm that I love so much.
Limassol was built between two ancient cities, Amathus and Kourion, and during Byzantine rule it was known as Neapolis (new town). Limassol’s historical centre is located around its medieval Limassol Castle and the Old Port.
I painted this just around the corner of the old castle in a side street. The church at the back is Ayia Napa Church.
Hope you like it.
Welcome to Savva.co
Hi, my name is Savva and I am a watercolour artist. It has been my passion right from the start. From the first time I put brush to paper. I love everything about watercolour but most of all, its unpredictablility. It has a mind of its own but if you allow it, oftentimes it will paint for you. No other medium will do that or give you the same buzz that watercolour does. The most engaging of all media.
